So I've decided that I'm one day moving to Edinburgh and summering in Croatia. It is absolutely incredible here. I've met a lot of people along the way who ask me what my favourite place has been thus far and I can never answer it. Until now. Croatia. My expectations were high coming here...especially after a really crappy and hot "people obstacle" day in Italy...and it just keeps exceeding them.
It's been a long time since I've blogged because Mo and I have just been going going going. We spend so little time in each place that we are actually excited to be spending three nights here because it feels extended. Being in each place for such a short time means that you can't possibly waste any of it on the internet. And in those moments when you actually do want to waste it, you can't find anywhere to internet.
That's another reason Croatia is perfect. We've seen internet all over the place. And right now I am using internet in a park. There are actually full computers set up on tables in the middle of a dimly lit park in Dubrovnik at 8:40pm. It's awesome.
Mo and I have done a million and one tours in the last 5 weeks. Right now I'm toured out, but they've all been great and we've met lots of amazing people. We did three 3-day tours, one after the other, in S. Ireland, N. Ireland and Scotland. We had a very relaxing three days in Wales, where Diane (the woman who was my nanny when I was one-year-old) pampered us to death. We had amazing home cooked meals, beds, showers, laundry. That might not sound like pampering...but I've been backpacking for more than two months now so you can imagine some of the "dodgy" conditions. And she and her parents took us all over sight seeing. They were so great.
Then we jumped right back into tour #4. Of the Greek Islands. I had been dying to go there for ages and the views and the sights were incredible...but they unfortunately didn't quite meet my expectations. We went to four islands. The two I will definitely go back to are Paros and Santorini. I don't think I'll need to go back to Mykonos or Ios...too party party for my liking. Athens too was amazing with all the history...but it was a bit dirty and sketchy. Again, I don't think I need to go back there.
Then we were off for a three day reprieve in Sorrento, Italy, where it turned out to be stifling hot. And we had no air conditioning or fan to cool off. And we were sleeping in a cabin in a campground and had to share camping style bathrooms. Yuck. It was pretty unbearable. But the views were incredible and we did day trips to Pompei and Capri. Capri was just gorgeous.
We were unfortunately quite happy to leave Italy. It was just too hot and the people (on the last day) were quite rude. We're now thinking of changing our itinerary to skip Florence and Rome after we visit our friend Federica on the Adriatic side of Italy (which I am very much looking forward to).
So that brings me to now. We got to Croatia yesterday and it is just taking my breath away. So beautiful. We even made a surprising day trip to Bosnia today. Surprising because we had no idea when we signed up last night to go to Mostar (because Mo liked that it was like her name..haha) that it was in a completely different country. I definitely felt like an ignorant American tourist when we got to the border. Hahaha.
Okay, gotta go. Another reason I don't blog is because internet is so damn expensive.
