This morning we had a nice and early wake up, as we wanted to be at Pearl Harbor early so that we could get tickets to go out to the USS Arizona memorial. We arrived in perfect timing and didn't even have to wait. We made our way in and got our tickets then headed to the movie theatre to watch the movie on pearl harbour. After that we headed out on the boat over to the Arizona memorial. It was pretty amazing to see the sunken boat sitting on the bottom still, the same place it was sunk. And the wall of the men lost on the ship, 1,177 of them, all still down there. It was pretty incredible. We then made our way back on the boat to the main part of pearl harbour and went and got some food as we were all pretty hungry. Then we continued our trip. We had a look around the torpedoes and some of the equipment and weapons used in the war, then boarded the Bowfin, the submarine. We had a tour through that and were all very surprised how it all worked and how many people were in such a small space. Afterwards we carried on to the submarine museum to learn more cool things and see more arti facts. Then our tour continued. We looked around more of the pieces of things from the war and then into the main museum. It was absolutely amazing to read and hear and see the things that happened at the time of the war and the attack on Pearl Harbor.
After that our day took us to grab some lunch before we jumped on the bus and headed over to Ford Island, the current military base, where we got onboard the USS Missouri. The ship was MASSIVE! There was everything you could have imagined onboard! From dentists to donut shops! It was huge! And we only saw parts of it! It was impressive to look around, and even see where the surrender, end of the war agreement was signed. While we were on board the ship we saw some naval officers coming in from sea on a submarine, and there was a military ceremony. By this time it was 4pm, so it had already been a long day, but we decided that one more stop at the final place was worth it. So we jumped on the bus and headed to the aviation museum. We got to see a lot of the war planes and military planes as well as learn some more about the aviation side of the war. It was definitely worth it. After that we had seen everything so we jumped in the taxi and made our way back to the hotel. We had a bit of time to relax before we walked down to the beach for "Aloha night" which is fireworks on the beach every Friday night in Waikiki. They were impressive fireworks! So it was definitely worth it. We also caught up with one of the girls from home on the beach - Tiegan Wilson. So we decided to head down to the Hilton to have few drinks with her parents. We got down there, the place was super flash! So we had a drink with them at the bar and listened to the live music. The girls went up to their room for a drink and to look out over the beach. It was mid night before we made our way back to bed, so I was a very long day and we were all ready for a sleep, but it was definitely an awesome day!
