We landed in Dubai @ 8am Monday morning. The Emirates flight was really relaxing, Adam was happy as he got to watch 'The Hobbit' I watched a film called 'The strange thing about Timothy Green' the TV screen was really big so was like watching it in the cinema. The food was tasty, lamb biryani for main. Pear & chocolate desert, there was also lots of other snacks that came with the meal. I made the most of the free drinks, I kept getting thirsty!
Our hotel is right in the centre of Dubai, although that doesn't mean a lot. Dubai is huge, the one thing we were a bit confused by is that you can't seem to walk anywhere; the paths are quite small & only near the main buildings. On the first day we chilled by the pool in the hotel during the day and had some lunch in the pool area. The people are not the friendliest in Dubai, not many people speak English at all. The hotel staff are very helpful, but it is still a bit frustrating that they do not understand clear English. We spoke to the local tourist ladies in the hotel & they told us to check out the Dubai shopping mall & Burj Khalifa. We freshened up & headed out that evening, taxis are amazingly cheap, we went about 20 minutes away for less that £4.00. The Burj Khalifa is huge, we stood directly underneath it & looked up to the top. We were not able to see the view from the tallest point as you have to make reservations to even go inside. The tourist lady also told us about the famous fountains that go off every 30minutes. I was being silly and thought they were the small fountains near the Burj khalifa, we stood there waiting for something to happen until Adam cleverly realised that they probably weren't the ones. We walked further around & saw the actual fountains. It was pretty to watch at night & the view of all the tall buildings lit up was nice. We then went into shopping mall which was so clean & sparkly, all the shops were mostly designer although we did see - Topshop, River Island, Next & Boots!
