Day 6- !st day of school today. I´m so nervous which had caused a very disrupted sleep the night before. At 7.30am I head for the bus and thankfully one of the teachers from the school is there, as I really had no idea where I was going. When we arrive there are just a few children and i´m asked to get some puzzles out and look after them. This seemed an easy enough task, however I soon realise that the kids really couldn´t understand my English instructions and instead decided to just stare at me as if an alien had walked into their classroom. Two other volunteers arrived, one from Holland and the other from Ireland, and I soon settled in. Now looking back at the day, despite my previous doubts, I absolutely love the school. The kids are all brilliant and thankfully I seem to be liked by them to. I now struggle to walk anywhere without a kid hanging off or climbing onto me.
Day 7- It´s already day 7, I can´t quite believe how quick it´s going. Today at school was `Happy Day´. It occurs once a month to celbrate all the childrens birthdays of that month. All the kids gathered in a classroom where they ate cake, danced and played musical chairs. It´s quite sad thinking this might be all some of the kids get for their birthdays.
Day 9- All the other volunteers were away today so I was on my own at school. Was a good if fairly uneventful day. In the evening I met up with Alex who I work with and some of his language school friends to play football. There was a big group of Americans at the park who were typical jocks, and us Europeans showed them how to play proper football. The altitude really started to take it´s toll after two hours. The Peruvians watching took great pleasure in my Newcastle shirt and from then on I was named Solano.
Day 10- Started to get a bit of a fever today so thought I would have an earlyish night. Not the best time then for my room mate Allan to come home for the 1st weekend. About 5.00am the next morning I stagger back into the house much to worse for wear after many of the national drink ´Pisco Sour´ (Grape Brandy and eggwhite). Good night.
Day 11- Fever mixed with hangover is not a good combination. Ten minutes were spent for breakfast and then next thing I know, i´d slept through till Sunday.

Mitchell Pele Griffiths Solano hope all is well mate. Sounds like your having a great time. Its good to hear there are other travellers there for you to talk to. Mate Pisco sour sounds like the devils juice man! How is the altitude sickness and do the coca leaves or the more importantly the coca tea do anything to help clear it up? Sounds amazing mate i wish i was then instead of stuck doing revision and exams at university. Have a great time and enjoy this once in a lifetime experience. We all look forward to hearing the stories of how amazing it is when you get back. xx
