Last night I set out on my 15 hour overnight bus from Arequipa to Lima and was surprised to find that it went over pretty fast as I more or less passed out for most of the trip and only woke up when the bus broke down with a flat tyre for a couple of hours. Right now I am in Link hostel in Miraflores getting some rest before my 3.30am wake up call to go to the airport for my flight. It's crazy that I am now at the end of a trip which I spent years of dreaming and planning for. A summary of my trip goes something like this:
Places visited: Lima, Huancayo, La Merced (amazon), Pisco, ballestas islands, Ica, Huacachina, Arequipa, Chivay, Colca Canyon, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Puerto Maldonado (Amazon), La Paz, coroico, Copacabana, Lake Titicaca, Puno.
Modes of transport: aeroplane, taxi, bus, combi, old school VW Beetle, speed boat, canoe, dune buggy, sandboard, American muscle car, bike, walking.
Highlights: working with kids at the orphanage, going to a Peruvian wedding, sandboarding/dune buggying, hiking the 4 day inca trail to Machu Picchu, riding the death road, playing with monkeys at La sende verde animal refuge, chilling in hammocks watching the sunset over the amazon river, watching the cholita wrestling, meeting some unforgettable people.
It really has been a once in a lifetime experience which I have loved every minute of. It is something I will never forget and something I will always be proud of doing! By far the most amazing, intense, rewarding few months of my life!
