Hey people,
We left the adventure capital of the north island behind and headed for a small isolated place called river valley which was a cosy hostel situated right on the river bank. This hostel was excellent we had a room all to ourselves and they did home cooked cakes, it reminded me of a log cabin that you would use in the mountains; skiing. It seemed very coincidental that this place had a spa and it just so happens that everybody was aching off that mammoth 20km trek. It started to feel like Thailand when the tuk tuk driver tries to take you to his brother's tailors shop, just a money making scheme but on a bigger and more commercial scale. None the less we booked a 45 minute slot for the hot tub haha
We were the last session of the day so we had time to cook some tea and explore the area. The view from our room was amazing, you looked out the window and you could see huge mountain with a 50m waterfall running down the side into the stream that ran past the hostel. It was a 30 seconds walk to the stream and it had a old fashioned pulley across the river so being the fidgety inpatient person that i am i hopped straight on to give it a go. It was a great vibe down at the river and the hostel in general and this is where me and Hayley were going to do white water rafting but because our bodies had taking such a beating the day before i don't think we were up to it so we decided to give it a miss and just relax in the hot tub that night. It was $25 for 45 minutes but that was divided by four people so it worked out okay, we managed to recruit Stacey from Canada to share the costs.
The hot tub was situated outside right next to the river that ran past the hostel and it was a nice cold crisp night none of us had a watch on or any means of keeping time, it was just what we needed. 10 minutes turned into 30 and 30 turned into 50 and so on and by the time one of us dared get out and face the cold air it turns out we had been in 2 hours haha It wasn't our fault nobody came and told us to get out but we were hoping that they weren't going to charge us double when we had to settle up when we checked out the next morning. Hayley checked out first and then came back with a worried look on her face, "guys........i don't know what to do she hasn't charged us for the hot tub i think i should say something"
Me and Louise hit back with "Are You kidding me, just keep it hush hush.......free hot tub wooo hooo!" Obviously this was eating Hayley alive being the honest girl that she is and she wanted to do the right thing and fess up because she had seen the hot tub marked against another Hayley's name. However Me and Lou persuaded Hayley to keep it on the down low, i think Hayley looked at me in disgust when I suggested not telling Stacey and still collecting her share for the hot tub. Haha What has this backpacker life turned me into, i prefer to describe it as having a good business mind. Anyway we got away with it but Hayley was worried that karma was going to catch us up and punish us but i didn't have time to think about that i was too busy buzzing off the free hot tub!!! Woop woop!!
Next destination was the capital city of wellington which was voted one of the best little cities in the world.
Love Adam Louise and Hayley xxx
