Bula,
We left Mantaray Resort behind and the immense snorkelling and headed for our last resort which was Octopus Resort, this was supposed to be the best one out of the lot and to make things better we were meeting back up with our friends Sophie and Rhiannon. We went through the usual welcoming scenario of Fijian songs upon arrival followed by cocktails blah blah blah..........boring! haha We checked the place out and it was immaculate, it had a pool and was set out exactly like blue lagoon resort but only on a bigger scale because it was apparently owned by the same people.
On the first day we just caught up with saj and raj that's short hand for Sophie and Rhiannon by the way, we also met up with Carla and Chris and Amy and Leony who were also on the island. The next morning it was all about the breakfast and they had the full Cha-Bang........... i mean i would go as far as saying maybe the best. That day me and Lou decided we wanted to do our advanced scuba diving license, so we went and asked Johnny hot pants who was the dive master at the resort and the price was about $600 fijian dollars each so i thought i would give him an offer he couldn't refuse, i said if you can do it both for $1000 dollars we'll do it................ just so happens he refused!! Louise took the time out of her busy schedule that day to make some ankle bracelets out of shells with the local Fijian woman at the resort. She made four for Steph, Dawn, Katie and one for herself.
The thing that set this place above the rest was it made cake for an afternoon snack and it was within our budget, banana cake...... awwww right! That night me Lou, Saj and Raj had a private table next to the pool for our candle lit 3 course meal. We really bonded that night and shared business ideas along with poo stories we really connected haha and we had a great laugh! After dinner we went down by the beach and just watched the stars because they were unbelievable we saw a shooting star.............i'm writing this and i'm thinking god this sounds a bit fake like it's something out of a fairytale but that's just how it is haha........................it's tough i know but we get through it, the crystal blue waters and the 3 course meals make it slightly easier but we just take one day at a time haha
Lou and the girls decided to go on a kindergarten visit to see the children at the local Fijian school, i decided to give this one a miss and just chilled around the pool and read my book and caught some vitamin d. When Lou returned from the trip she said it was brilliant the kids were jumping all over them and she let the kids have a play with my camera and she just loved it taking pictures of all her school friends hence the very random photos we now have. They were just in time for dinner. After dinner us four just sat with Emma (Fijian worker) and just made more stuff out of leaves, me and lou made bookmarks and saj and raj went for the bracelet. We just quizzed Emma about life on the island and how the resort was helping the local village. Turns out none of them like the manager and his wife, apparently there really strict the Fijians are not allowed to eat the leftover food from the dinners, they don't eat the same food as we do they have to bring a packed lunch to work so after we made our book marks we went and bought Emma a chocolate cake and gave it to her but she was reluctant to take it incase she got caught so she went and ate it round the back of one of the huts !!! The manager found her and she got sacked!!!.....not really i just made that last bit up haha Emma told us that Fijian names normally always end in A so decided to call us Adama, Louisa, Sophia and Rhianna for the rest of our stay at octopus.
That day i remember we all sat around the pool and just put the world to right and we talked about how prison wasn't harsh enough and the sentences are pathetic so me and Lou decided to start a vigilante group up, you know take the law into our own hands. Some people call them assassins whatever! We were looking forward to tonight's quiz, every night they put some sort of activity on and tonight was the long awaited quiz night!! We polished down our dinner and got ready however because there was only 4 of us we had to join tables with another 3 girls who looked like back packers and thats where we met "i'm an Opera singer Emily" thats actually what she said when we were introducedand managed to slip it into the conversation about 5 other times.....you know the type full of herself! Since it was a table full girls then me someone came up with the team name of 'ladies and the tramp' Anyway the quiz got underway and i didn't really have much hope since i was useless unless it was a question on electrics and they don't come about very often, we also had Louise who in the last quiz we took part in thought Muslims pray in Mecca...........what the bingo??Haha
However turns out Sophie and Rhiannon were wiz kids. The help of the Fijian staff also helped. We ended up drawing top with another team every round and had to perform in a playoff dance off and the team who receives the most cheers wins! What happens next is truly horrible and i would not wish it on my worst enemy................ first team gets up and dances for 30 seconds every body's clapping along woo, woo and gives them a big cheer once they've finished! Now its the girls turn to dance................. they all gather on the dance floor, the music starts they have one last glance at each other then suddenly burst into the chicken dance, ones doing the running man i even saw Ala-ka-shee at one point...........the crowd was silent, you could hear my lonesome claps echo as the tumble weed just rolls past, i even heard someone's cough in the back row, it must of felt like a life time on that stage. When it came to the cheer off we got silence and the other team got a standing ovation. To make things worse on the way back to the table and obviously upset with the lack of support and sheer nastiness of the guests our feisty friend Rhiannon starts to give everyone the fingers, F#*% Off and shouts in her liverpoolian accent "its jus because wer gails" haha so i had to shout hey Liverpool sit down! Haha then Lou starts shouting at the manager to try and overrule the decision it was so embarrassing!!
We came joint top in another round meaning another dance off but this time it was the boys turn but surely they wouldn't get me up on the stage by myself would they?? That would be my worst nightmare dancing on a stage by myself; sober with about 50 people watching me and with what happened with the last dance off in the back of my mind we didn't exactly make any friends.......... I'm thinking i've got two options 1) slope off to the toilet or 2) cause a distraction and set the place on fire haha just kidding, but not really! Before i had the chance they introduced me on stage...........as the tramp!!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! They started playing Michael Jackson, jokes on them little do they know that i specialise in MJ ooo oooooooo! Shaaaa-moaan!!However i did go blank when trying to do the thriller move when he puts his hands up like claws and goes from side to side.........i just stood there and put my hands up in front of me and just said raaaaar!!! Haha fortunately the crowd took pitty on me and voted me the winner which meant a free bottle of champagne for the table!!
The last and final round was a talent round and guess who put herself forward "i'm an oparah singer Emily" of course. However to be fair she was amazing she sang Peasu and then went on to say she sang at the royal Albert hall. Shame she never won lol
The quiz came to an end and we had managed to come joint first with 2 other teams meaning a mini Olympics to determine the overall winner i did a press up competition and won.....just! she caved in just before i did........did i say girl i meant man! Haha she was freakishly strong though! We won the final event on rock paper scissors thanks to Rhiannon and we won a Champaign breakfast on the beach in the morning! Sweet! Our friends left us to go onto their next island while we seen off the rest of our time on this island we were gutted when they left we had such a good time with them! But hopefully we would meet up in USA somewhere. The day had come where we had to depart Fiji and go back to the mainland for the airport, it was weird to see cars again after being ship wrecked for two weeks on the islands. We were allowed to use raffles hotel and pool next to the airport while we waited for our flight!
Fiji has been absolutely amazing and we classed it as our holiday of the travels i would recommend it to anyone it is just pure paradise and was so relaxing just to sit around without a care in the world. When we are travelling i know we aren't working but we still have to work out budgets, organise flights, buses, hotels, food etc and it can be stressful from time to time haha
LA here we come!! 1 week count down until we see our families!
Love adam and louise xxx
