Day 17 (continued)
We are greeted at the bus station by about 10 Tuc Tuc drivers pretty much stopping us from getting off the bus trying to sell us a ride. I can easily understand how paparazzi get punched by celebs, it is the most annoying thing ever! We speak with one driver who doesn't know where our new guest house is (Cumpun guesthouse) after speaking to his mates for about 10 minutes they finally find out how to get there - this didn't fill us with confidence that the place we were staying in was not even known by locals! What had we let ourselves in for...
Well in actual fact the guesthouse was okay, it was very basic and the shower was located about half an arms length from the toilet which meant that everything was drenched each time we showered, but at least it had a bathroom/toilet and it was clean. After checking in with a guy named Alexis (Polish maybe Russian) we walked around the local china town before finding our way back to parts of Chiang Mai that we recognised. We stopped off for some dinner and then headed out to the night market to have a look around.
*I also updated the Ipad to IOS7 but have since found out that this update stops owners being able to use adapters or chargers that are not apple products. This means that the connector we bought to upload photos is now surplus to requirements and are having to make do with Internet cafes when we can find them as we are unable to undo the upgrade.*
Day 18
We were woken around 8:30 by a loud van blaring out some recorded Thai person speaking about Fanta or something. We have seen these vans around and believe they must be advertising. However it is extremely loud and nobody seems to pay attention to it so we are still not really sure what is going on. We then the spent the day chilling out and had lunch at the local cafe/sandwich shop. Hannah had a tuna crunch sandwich and I ordered what I thought were 2 "mini burgers and chips" however I was presented with 2 full size burgers and chips! Let's just say that on day 18 - lunch was good!
In the evening we found a burrito restaurant and had..well burritos surprisingly! We then went to the bar where we met Liam (unfortunately he wasn't there - probably fighting a ladyboy or playing poker) we played some pool and had some mojitos. We had already booked a hostel in Chiang Rai (different place) for the next 3 nights and had to get another bus the next day.
