It's sad. We don't even awake until 10am and that's really 11. We've missed breakfast and we're closing in on lunch. Our breakfast, followed by a meet & greet at 10 and a cruise lecture at 11 are all gone. So we hurry up, get dressed and head up to lunch at 12:30. It's crowded but we manage to find soup, salad and some fruit - our usual. We enjoy our lunch, looking out on the sea as we make our way toward Grand Turk Island. The Caribbean has been smooth and the sun's out, about 77°F. I work on this blog while Karen tries different foods, stuff I would never touch.
About 2pm we check out the pool. We find a comfortable seat and Mom tries some gelato. It's crowded in the pool and spa, at least for a Holland America cruise. The ship is sold out and, with it being just a 7 day cruise, there are more people below the age of 40 than we usually see, however, it's warm out and I would expect these areas to be busy. Now we go downstairs to the shopping areas on Decks 2 & 3. I continue my work on the blog while Mom explores the stores. A band starts playing so I listen while writing. Karen finds a few baubles for her collection.
It's 4pm and Happy Hour so now I buy two Tequila Sunrises for the price of one. That's what I'm talking about! We hang out until until 5:30 before returning to our room to dress for dinner. We report to the dining room around 6:30 and we're given one of those buzzer things and told to go to the bar and wait for the call. With a free glass of champagne in her hand, Karen wanders through some jewelry stores, making me a bit nervous but the call comes just in time, returning us to the dining room where we sit with two Canadians. They're fun and we converse over our meal. Mom has wiener schnitzel, spinach salad and sugar free apple strudel while I had kingfish, cold blueberry soup, spring roll and berry crisp.
We visited long after the Randy Cabral Comedy or the British Invasion Shows had begun so, after saying goodbye to our Canadian friends, we returned to our room by 10pm. Karen ordered room service for 6:30am and prepared for our excursion on Grand Turk Island starting at 8am in the morning.
I hope tomorrow brings some excitement to our trip. So far we've spent a day on planes traveling to Florida, another day checking in on the ship and today, sleeping and wandering about the Koningsdam. Not all that exciting, I must admit.
We'll see.
