Ok. So I'm here in Boracay. My last entry was kind of a recap of the past week, so here's what's going on here and now. For those of you who don't know, Boracay is a major beach-paradise-tourist destination-thing. It's the Philippines' Phuket or Bali. The tourists are mostly Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese. This is kind of nice, because it makes it feel less 'Americanized'. Though Boracay has definitely lost it's Philippine-ness in a way, it still has a lot to offer.Â
The nice thing about Boracay is that if the craziness of the scene on White Beach (the main beach) gets to be too much, it's only three miles to the east side, where there are the exact same beaches, only without the people. Virginia and I had Ilig-Iligan beach almost completely to ourselves with the exception of a few locals who were swimming nearby (mostly little kids). We spent a day snorkeling there, and enjoying the quiet. I felt we also had to visit the nearby batcave of Yapak. I've been told on many occasions by various people that I am batman. I've never got a satisfactory explanation why, other than, "you're just batman." I dunno, but it seemed appropriate that I visit the batcave. Along with thousands of bats, were poisionous sea snakes everywhere. Perhaps the real batman wouldn't have minded, but I was a bit nervous. Our guide, Yolando, made it very clear that we follow in a single file line exactly in his footsteps. There were snakes within 4 feet of us on both sides. Virginia got some pictures, but for now, you can just imagine how unnerving how it was. Â
Anyway, the time back at White Beach has been spent wandering around, looking for good restaurants, swimming in the warm waters and marvelling at the Asian tourists. They don't seem to be here for the beaches. They are here to enjoy the luxury of the hotels, and the variety of restaurants. It blows my mind to see them taking pictures of each other standing by the sign in front of the Regency Hotel, while a beautiful sunset is right behind the photographer. Oh well. To each his own I guess.Â
My hour for internet is almost up, and I don't want to pay for another, so I guess this is the end of this entry. Take care everyone.  Oh, and sorry to all Asians who were offended.
