Dear All,
I wrote this blog just now but the computers went down and I lost it - how annoying! Loads of people have their own laptops and just hook up the free wireless link. I feel a bit left out but the problem is, I don't think I could carry a laptop.
It was last day in New York and it was raining! I caught the metro down to Times Square. I've mastered the Metro system really well now (after a couple of errors!). I loved Times Square because there is so much to look at and loads of shops. I didn't go in to the shops because I was worried that I would be tempted to buy something, that I couldn't carry. However, I did go in to Toys R Us because I had heard that it was huge. It was pretty big, inside it had a ferris wheel and a life sized Barbie house that you could go in to. I really wanted a ride on the ferris wheel but I didn't have a go because there was only kids on there and I think I may have looked like a bit of a prat!
After Times Square, I walked to New York's main cathedral and looked around it. Then I walked to the Empire State Building. I did a lot of walking in New York and I'm surprised that my body didn't go in to shock with all the exercise. The weather had cleared up a bit by the time I got to the Empire State Building so visability wasn't too bad. It takes 50 seconds for the elevator to get to the 80th floor! It does feel a bit weird.
After my day of sightseeing, it was early evening. On my way back to the hostel, I got off the metro at Central Park. Central Park was beautiful and far nicer than I had imagined. I had a walk around the bit called 'Strawberry Fields'. It's called that because it's a memorial to John Lennon. Then I saw a thing that was so magical (well I thought it was anyway!) - loads and loads of fireflys! I think that's what they were anyway. It was getting to dusk and they were so clearly visable, it really was amazing. I did some video footage but it doesn't do it justice. If it wasn't getting dark then I could have stayed there for ages watching them.
I got back to the hostel and watched some stand up comedy that they had on. Then I packed for Canada because I was getting picked up at 3.45am for my flight to Vancouver! I loved New York, especially the muffins, pizza and fireflys.
