I was the only one at breakfast, which consisted of tea, biscuits and jam but no butter!. Off about 0915, and the air was quite cold at first. Nice easy downhill until Borge San Dalnezzo where it levelled off. I avoided the centre of Cuneo by crossing a onw-way bridge in Borge San D the wrong way! Had a snack on the East side of Cuneo, then followed a minor road (but still lots of trucks) to Fossano. On the West approach to Fossano I took an off-road cycle track which went under the railway and main road then up a hill to the town centre, where a market in Via Roma was being dismantled. I walked through the arcades on both sides of Via Roma looking in vain for a map shop, but in the end had to rely on my Garmin. (Note: writing this blog years later (2018) that reads strangely, but in 2013 I was a GPS novice and only had 'City Navigator' maps. Nowadays I generally use OFM and wouldn't bother with paper maps.)

A few miles after Fossano I stopped for a late lunch in McDonalds, where I also made use of the WiFi. It was quite unpleasant cycling on this stretch due to the number of large trucks and the narrow roads, I decided to head for Asti, where I stumbeld upon Hotel Rainero in the centre of town, Three stars at 60 Euros was fair enough. The very helpful receptionist directed me to the bike storage area in an underground garage across the street. After the usual clothes washing routine, I walked through the town, and had a very nice dinner al fresco on the piazza near to where marching bands were practising flag throwing . Later I popped in to a bar for a final beer, which was served in a Tennents glass! The barman had worked in the Dorchester Hotel London.
