After trains, tuktuks, boats and buses which stranded you in the middle of no where I managed to arrive on Koh Phangan...a little pinker than I had left Bangkok...My "bungalow" was more of a shed than anything, but who am i to complain when the beach is on my doorstep and if that wasn't enough there were 2 pools to keep me happy. Since i'm not really one to sit around and do nothing after a day of travelling I set off on foot into town, where I decided to be adventurous and for dinner picked a street stall that cooked fresh fish for you... I pointed at the red snapper and whatever it was that came with it (photos to come later) it was not an attractive meal, but it tasted amazing and confirmed that i am now well and truly over my fussy eating habits.
The next day i spent the whole day on a cruise of the local islands in the scorching sunshine, stopping periodically for snorkelling and visiting islands. One of which had a steep climb of 400-500m to fantastic view point of the bay. Myself and 3 Americans climbed this and eventually arrived as sweaty messes at the most incredible viewpoint...photos to follow...then for the tricky part...the scramble back down....exhausted back on the boat we were taken to another island. This one was famous for its emerald lagoon and also involved a lot of steps...the view was also phenomenal and after walking back down all the steps I had earned an ice cream....On the way back to Koh Phangan we lay on the roof of the drivers cabin of the boat and as we were arriving the sun was setting beautifully behind us and the full moon was already out over koh phangan in front of us. To make this scene even more spectacular there were occassional flashes of heat lightening in the direction of the sunset.
Finally the day of the full moon party had arrived and after killing time sunbathing that day i got ready and met the two Brits, Jess and Ben, i had arranged to go with and their German friends...who's names i never caught :-/ Soon we were plastered in UV paint and you would have struggled to find a bare inch of skin between us. Our "taxi" arrived at 10 and soon we were speeding towards Haad Rin in the back of a pick up truck driving very fast down some very windy roads...that was a highlight in itself...We arrived, got a wristband, and bought some buckets. The beach was covered in people and stalls and as soon as we got there we began to lose each other...at one point I was left with only the ginger German following me around...I soon shook him off and went stag along the beach. The atmosphere was amazing and i watched the fire dancers in a trance whilst walking along the beach soaking up the atmosphere. I bumped into a few travellers I had met before and grateful for some friendly faces danced along with them, buckets in hand. It began to rain heavily and this only made the party better in my opinion since i was covered in UV paint and quite happy to let some of it wash away whilst dancing in the puddles. In the end i was soaked and thought the sensible thing to do would be run into the sea...after realising the sea was basically the boys toilets i soon sprinted out and having lost everyone again I went in search of a chicken burger and a ride home.
