This morning we arrive in Nijmegen – hometown of Eddie Van
Halen, we take the tour bus to the border of “Veluwe” where a former royal
palace of the House of Orange Nassau – Het Loo Palace is our place to visit
today. The Royal Family of Orange
reigning now in the Netherlands, takes its roots in the 13th
century. The residence Het Loo, was
built in 1686, it was last used by Kings and Queens as their summer palace. Queen Wilhelmina and Juliana were the last
to live at the palace, it is now a
museum for visitors viewing, the gardens in particular are spectacular with
magnificent view, impressive statues, fragrant flowers and softly playing
fountains - a delight to our senses.
The name Orange takes its roots from the French Princedom of
Orange, named after the town Orange in the South of France. Today
orange is the traditional colour of the Dutch monarchy, the symbol of unity and
solidarity of the nation, as well as the beloved colour of the whole
country.
The afternoon is spent relaxing on board in the lounge area,
and learning about what is up and coming for the rest of the trip, as we sail
towards Germany.
Today everyone is invited to the Captain’s Welcome Cocktail
followed by dinner, we are greeted by the Captain, ladies receive a red rose
for the waiting vase in our rooms.
