Welcome to the Main River, the winding river, also known as "the snake", is smaller and more relaxed compared to the Rhine. The morning is free to relax and take in the many quaint villages we float by, and the mechanisms of many a lock we have to pass through.
This afternoon we visit one of the region's most picturesque places, Miltenberg, it’s stuck in time and comes straight out of a fairy tale picture book with its main street full of cute little half-timbered houses. The historic centre, often sustained considerable damage in floods, only in the 21st century efficient flood control measures, such a the river wall, have significantly reduced the adverse effects of these floods. Our lovely guide dressed very Bavarian takes us on a treasure hunt where learnt about the town but also some trivia, we get along the way from the bakery a lovely piece of pretzel which was actually developed by the monks and the crossed over symbolled pretzel represents crossed arms. We learn how a witch is determined, guess what? Freckled red heads are one type of witch!! We also learn why the wine bottle here is a little squat bottle – apparently, represents the shape of a goats balls. It was a lovely visit, it was a favourite place of our trip.
The evening concludes with a special chef's dinner called the Chaine des Rotisseries and then visiting guests on board, two girls that looked like and sounded like ABBA, it was fun to listen to all those songs I used to love when growing up.
