This morning we arrive in Vienna – Wein as it is known in German. Vienna is truly elegant and a grand city, we appreciate the grandeur of monumental buildings and architecture even though unfortunately, for the first time on the trip (but there is no stopping us) it is raining and overcast today.
We are shown the city sights and because of the rain making it a little cold, we decide to join the locals during our free time, finding a bakery café, where we climb stairs to the second floor for warm drinks. Cherie and Mum also had a berry slice, myself a strawberry éclair and Dad to be different decided to have a banana split.
No visit to Vienna would really be complete without visiting one of Vienna's many musical venues. What a treat to arrive for a private concert by the Viennese Imperial Orchestra at the Liechtenstein City Palace owned by the princely family of Liechtenstein. The concert entry and hall was amazing with pristine white walls and gold decorations everywhere you looked, the chandeliers are stunning. We are seated on gold chairs for a performance of 12 pieces by Mozart, the Strauss Family, Lehar and Stolz – our favourite of course is the famous Blue Danube played with such feeling and strength that it gives you goosebumps listening.
I have added some short video's of performances for a little taste of what we experienced.
