So we are still in Byron Bay, it is nice hear a real surfer town. We went in the sea today and yesterday and the waves are insaine, they are about 5ft high and break like a rip curl wave. Its mad and so powerful. A couple of us rented body boards and surf boards but its so rough that none of us are good enough and we had a couple of minor cuts and bruises so I think I will wait till we get somewhere a little quieter to try again.
Surf camp was amazing. We went to this place called mojo surf camp, or spot X which seams very unknown to a lot of people so is really quiet. We had a big party the night we got there and then had to get up at 6am for breakfast the next day and then had our surf lesson at 7am which started with having to put on a wet suit and then going for a jog and then doing a million pop ups on the beach before actually getting into the water. It was amazing though and I did manage to stand a couple of times but we were using really big foam boards so it was a lot easier.
We have been trying to sort out our Fraser Island and Whitsundays trip. Fraser island is basically the biggest sand island here and you do a self drive safari camping tour around it for 2 nights but you do need to book and work out where to ferry across. Also the Whitsundays are islands which you sail around, stop at and snorkel and that takes about 3 days also but we need to work out what type of boat we want to go on. We can go on a Kat which takes about 60 people or a choice of loads of different sailing boats from racing boats to tall ships so we need to make some decisions. We can book now and just have them open dated but apparently here is quite good place to book from as there are a lot of travel agencys so it is more competitively priced.
Today we actually managed to book it but on open dated tickets so now we just have to work out when to go.
