One of the many places where you can get drinking water in Rome. About every 500 meters, there would either be one of these things or a spout coming out of the wall of a building and it's their own ancient version of running water. Instead of everyone having a spout in their house, they had them in the streets so everyone could bring down their jugs and fill up on good drinking water. It is still safe to drink, and this is usually where I would fill up my water bottles every morning.
