I know we have like a months worth of updating to do, it's going to take ages. But I may as well get started.
Washington. Aaaah Washington. If we haven't told you already, it was really quite boring. It was raining and yucky when we got there and our hostel that was "10 blocks from the White House" quite clearly was not. When we reached our hostel, the "proprietor" informed us that he had over booked and we would be sleeping in the same bed for pretty much the same price. Our impressions of Washington didn't really get much better from this point (however there was a really cute Norweigan guy sleeping in our room).
We went into "town" and saw Dubya's house which is really unimpressive, it's actually quite small. We saw the Lincoln monument, and that big erection statue and Monument Square. All there really was in Washington was a bunch of statues of dead people on horses. Yay!
One thing we did like though, was the Kennedy Air and Space Museum (which also hads bits from the American History Museum in it, because that was getting renovated). After sleeping in the same bed for a few nights (and Sarah stealing ALL the blankets) we were quite cranky with each other and split up to do some exploring. We saw the Wright brothers plane, the one that actually made the first flight, and Buzz Aldrin's spacesuit from Apollo 11 and a bunch of other cool spacey stuff. We also saw Dorothy's red slippers from the movie, the puffy shirt from Seinfeld, George Washington's suit and the hat Lincoln was wearing when he got assasinated.
Besides all that, Washington was unbelievably seedy. We couldn't walk down the street without being hollered at, I know we're very sexy but people should try and restrain themselves. It was one of the only American cities where the streets were dirty and we just didn't feel safe. We even felt safe walking around Harlem at night, but not here. The nations capital! Outrageous!
Best things about Washington - being bored, we sat in the TV room at the hostel a lot, so got to watch Mighty Ducks 1 AND 2, plus, possibly the best thing about the whole United States, we discovered ROCK OF LOVE 2. In which Bret Michaels from Poison tries to find a girlfriend (for the second time around). Don't worry, when we get back we shall purchase the DVD and make you all watch. Best. TV. Ever.
Then thankfully it was goodbye to Washington, hello Wilmington (ahem, Capeside...).
