DAY10 Sunday 07.02.2010 Arusha-Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Heikki 21!

6.30 am we headed to the bus station to look for bus to Dar Es Salaam. First man who came to sell tickets smelled like he was still drunken. Second man gave better price than yesterday's company so we started to bargain. We got ticekts for 13 500 Tsh (7€) each which was almost same price than locals pay. We were little surprised when bus departed only fifteen minutes late and was only half full. Then we got it, when bus was already moving people started to rush inside. African style, bus never leaves if it's not full! Before bus leaves and when it stops it's always surrounded by peddlers who sell fresh fruits, snacks, sodas etc, even baskets and mattresses! And almost every time there is a few who come into the bus and leaves at the next stop. Once there was a real trader who kept a speech and sold aloe vera products. By the road we saw a truck upside down and just a while after it there was a bad car accident. There were more than six buses, trucks and other cars stopped at the accident scene. Car was badly crushed and we were thinking that how somebody can survive from that kind of accident. About 100 people was gathered around the car (TIA=This Is Africa) and pulled three people out from there. One looked badly injured but was alive. After 12 hours in the bus, it supposed to be eight hours, we arrived to Dar Es Salaam when it was already dark.

In the bus terminal there was all the "taxi, taxi, here, good price, come, come" shouts and we were so tired that when we saw one white woman with a baby (our angel), we went to ask her some advice. We were very lucky cos she helped us and the woman (Alice, from Germany), the baby (Noah, soooooo cute!) and Alice´s husband (maybe one member of the masai mara tribe?) shared a taxi with us. We went to a Rastafar place where Alice was living. A place where is only sunpower electricity, organic food (no salt, no eggs, no meat, no milk etc.), no running water, handmade buildings and clothes. We had a really different dinner and a really too hot night. ..but no mosquitos! So, Happy Birthday to Heikki! Yeah, right.. (thx)
