It took 2 days; a train, a ferry and a bus to make it to Athens, Greece. Disappointingly I did not calculate this into the "days left" and went from having 4 days in Athens to one :( .
Finally Arriving in Greece my first impressions of this city i'd wanted to visit for such a long time were not that positive. People were rude and pushy, the streets seemed dirty; littered with rubbish and although not Greece's fault, my travel companion (who shall not be named- KERRY!!!) after 30 hours of travel had booked our hotel for the 15/17 of JULY not June, so we had no accomodation! After getting that sorted and taking a much needed shower Athens proved me completely wrong! A deliciously cheap meal of moussaka, good wine, some cool pubs and super friendly locals had my rethinking my initial impression of this city. Getting out in the heat to make the most of our one day here, Athens was a blast! And the food; Pretty close to the best I've eaten all trip so far... Greece and the Greek islands are absolutely on the must return list; just for longer than one day next time!
For now tho, we leave Greece and Europe headed for the hopefully sunny beaches of Rio de Janiero for some much needed down time
