Patagonia has turned out to be both one of the most spectacular and most boring places we have visited! The countryside is breathtaking... Like nowhere else we have visited (although that could be said for pretty much every where). Glaciers for miles, frozen lakes and more mountains than you imagine packed into every piece of the horizon. Each outing showed another breathtaking view of this landscape and a different way for mother nature to show off. On the downside the towns are in low season and almost all tours and restaurants are closed for the season. The small town of El Chalten (a town of 1000 residents at its peak- please note that is NOT now) had basically shut down and allowed us only one restaurant and bakery open for 3 days there. The larger town of El Calafate where we spent our remaining days had more options however all tour were closed and the price of a beer and steak at the pub required a remortgage of the house. Although the gateway to the glaciers and definitely worth the visit no down time should be planned for here this season!!
