I'm so sad today to be leaving my comfy room and the beautiful town of Santa Barbara, but I know I'll be back. I start the day with breakfast at "Our Daily Bread" and catch up on writing my blog. It's another recommendation from Krista and another winner.

Then I pack up and say goodbye before heading off to visit the cliffs above Arroyo Burro Beach. This was a lovely little walk with great vistas of the ocean as you walk through the sweet smelling pine trees towards the edge of the cliffs. The water is the bluest I've seen so far and there are views behind of the rolling hills and magnificent houses perched on peaks. I eat my little picnic lunch here looking out to sea and then head off on the road for my 2 hour drive to San Luis Obispo. By the way I don't think I've mentioned this, but from my West Coast playlist I've discovered I have quite the liking for rock music and now each time I move on to a new place I'm playing Aerosmith, "here I go again" very loudly and singing along at the top of my lungs, thank god no one is in the car with me :)

I arrive in San Luis and I have to say I'm not that impressed, yes it's a nice little town but I think I was expecting more, I'm not checking into my accommodation until 5pm so I spend a couple of hours mooching around the shops and visiting their Mission (which is not as large as Santa Barbara's).

5 o clock came around and I drive up to Pete's place. I picked this place like the others on Airbnb because it got great reviews and I was already anticipating it and the owner being a little out there and I was right. Pete is an artist and he has been living on his property for 40 years, it is covered in art, sculptures and dangly things. There are shrines to his diciest animals ( he currently has two living dogs and a cat) and as we wind our way up the path through the property, which he gives me a full tour of, I am finally shown my accommodation for the night. I'm torn as to deciding whether it reminds me of a garden shed or a shanty town house on the side of a hill. The good news is there was electricity and wifi and it looked kinda clean. Pete then invited me to join him and some other house guests for a family style dinner that evening.

Dinner was fun, I helped chop up the veggies, while Pete poured me wine (now that's a host) and we were joined by a slightly odd Dutch family. During dinner Pete liked to philosophize about life and I just kind of let him talk on, I think the Dutchies were being polite as well as they did not say a huge amount. It seems while Pete is clearly helping support himself with Airbnb he also likes the company just as much.

The family who are into mountain biking also give me a good recommendation for a hike, so I'm doing that early tomorrow before it gets too hot. I'm actually doing far more walking than I thought I would on this trip and I'm really enjoying it.
