We went to explore the French Concession today - the piece of Shanghai that the French ran at the end of 19th C and early 20th C.The place was a bit ofa disappointment - lots of leafy tree lined streets and a few places that had been turned into up market shopping/restaurant areas but nothing like we were led to believe. We did come across a French promotional market selling French wines, Bretagne crepes and Evian water!
After that we had a stroll through the Peoples park before going over to Pudong on they other side of the river. We decided to take the ferry as we didn't have time for a river cruise.Unfortunately, due to road works, they had moved or closed the ferry terminal so we endedup walking miles.Fran was not pleased at this point, but as we rounded the next bend therewas the ferry terminal. So we had our 1 yuan ferry ride and found our destination - the Grand Hyatt hotel in the Jinmao towers. The building is one of the tallest of the towers in Pudong- the hotel has between the 54th and 87th floors. We went to the bar on the 87th floor where the views were great - we got there just before dusk watching Shanghai light up for night. We then went off to a food market where we had dinner (with beer) for the price of one beer in the Hyatt (but there was no view!)
