It has taken nearly twelve months to get to this stage but we were finally in a position to give the camper a try out.
We drove down to Lorne to visit Gaels folks and got rained on heavily on the way. As well as giving the truck a wash it also highlighted my faulty workmanship re window installation. I wet my bed!!
That is to say water got in around the window gasket in large quantities and also washed my mattress.
A tube of silastic later and the problem appears to be solved.
The inside of the camper also gets excessively hot. There are several reasons for this. Thanks to my grounding in the sciences at Brighton Technical School, I quickly deduced that this is caused by the suns rays falling upon the campers external surface. Also, the solar panels on the roof are dark blue/black and being stuck directly to the roof conduct the energy from the suns rays (Brighton Tech again) directly though the roof and into the camper. And finally there is no where for the now very hot air to get out.
All this wouldn't be a problem but for the fact that the fruit stored in the cupboards stewed itself and the freezer was making panting noises.
Today, I fitted a vent into the roof just inside the door, so that we can open or close it depending on the climatic conditions at the time. Sun out open. Precipitation closed.
Other than the above faults and the near loss of a wheel nut things went remarkably well.
Six days and 1100klm past relatively uneventfully and Gael didn't strangle me. A good trial run!
Two to three months to blast off. We don't yet know in which direction we will be blasting but the planning phase is well under way.
