Well, it's the first time I am writing on the blog! Unlike Mike I'm afaid I don't like to plan things before I write; my dissertation for example! Don't be expecting literary talk and highly descriptive stuff, I prefer to write much more to the point. Jodhpur. Not exactly the most enthraling place when your hostel is up a never-ending windy road with dodgy drainage systems (if you can call it a system) and a touch of delhi belly, but never-the-less alright! (a touch, she was bed ridden!!-Mike) Once again Lonely Planet was far off the spot when it came to recommending this place (cosy guest house). There was literally nothing near-by, especially at night when it almost felt as though you were trapped within the confines of the restaurant or bedroom! At least there was a tv in the room! We didn't really do much on the first day due to my 'unsettled stomach', except for walk a bit towards the station and catch a dodgy rickshaw driven by apparent pre-pubescent delinquents back to the hostel! Oh and watch Naked Gun and the Princess Diaries (something which we probably shouldn't admit to) The second day was a bit more eventful. After navigating our way across the reservoir of sewage at the bottom of the craggy track from our hostel using unstable stepping-stones we made our way to Jodhpur Fort. Despite being a little 'forted out' it was quite nice to see Jodhpur Fort. The place is massive, appearing to grow from the rock it is perched upon. And unlike the other forts, it actually had a rather nice museum shop which provided me with some lovely earrings, and two bracelets!!
After going about our travels on the incredibly slow sleeper trains and, to be quite frank, a bit bored of it, we decided to save ourselves 21 hours and fly to Mumbai instead. Pretty glad we did as the hotel manager said he had made this journey a few weeks previously and it had taken him 29 hours!!! Oh well, it was a lot of rupees well spent!
