This is Argentina's super famous, super rich, ski resort and we were right at the beginning of the season. There wasn't much snow around but that wasn't stopping anyone. The town itself felt really alpine, with crisp temperatures, St Bernard's, and chocolate shops galore. If you're not going skiiing then theres not a lot to do here, but the lake set infront of snow capped mountains makes for a nice sight to admire.
Lucy and Chris arrived on our second day, teary eyed girls and squealing ensued. We were staying at Marco Polo Inn which was a really nice hostel that even came with breakfast and dinner and crazy mezzanine style two level dorm rooms. Nice for a bit of extra privacy. That night, feeling rebellious, we brought in our own alcohol (big no no here, only cos they want your money at the bar). Wasn't such a good idea really, given that between us nobody had a corkscrew. No bother, we made like a bunch of 15 year olds and smashed our way into the wine. As you'd expect we got busted when a new girl turned up in the room and then duly went off to reception to report there was no room. Enter receptionist with lecture on the hostel rules. Now we truly were 15 year olds. Sufficed to say we weren't nice to that girl afterwards. After being pushed out we went to the only happening place on a Monday, the local Irish bar where rather predictably we found the Irish couple that we'd met in Puerto Madryn. We even managed to find the local's pool bar later on, the drinks were a lot cheaper but we were something of a novelty to them.
We managed to spend 3 days without really doing very much except eating chocolate, and getting hideously drunk and singing if you're one of the girls. When those that had wanted to go skiing realised they either couldn't afford it, or didnt have the right insurance, we decided to head off. Lucy and Chris to Puerto Madryn to see the whales and the two of us to Buenos Aires, where we'd all meet again on Saturday. It was funny arranging little detours and meet ups that you'd expect to do in a small region or city, not an area the length of Western Europe. We managed to book a Super Cama bus for the super long journey and we got a perfectly flat be - we may never get the chance to fly first class so this was pretty special, and ridiculously comfortable.
