The bus from Rantepao - they stopped 652 times. Now, we have been currently stuck for 8 hours, without moving. Apparently, a seafood truck is lodged in the mud, and it flipped over, and it is not moving anytime soon. Now, I see them loading the fish back onto the truck. Now, they are rebuilding the road. It would be interesting to me if it were the first time I've seen this in Indonesia, but it's the 4th time I've seen this. It is the 4th vehicle I've seen flipped over. I'm not exaggerating. And it wasn't the last one I saw. Maybe the government should put some more money into road infrastructure. Unfortunately, that will probably never happen. Indonesia has one of the most corrupt governments in the world. They convince the populace of absolute ridiculous claims, most likely to shift their minds' to the use of their money.
When you come to Asia, you could get very sad at the destruction of natural resources happening right in front of your eyes. One of the last rainforests in the world is rapidly dissapearing, and one would hope that at least it was bringing much needed money to a poor 3rd world country. Well, it's not a poor government and that's where the money tends to go, not to roads obviously. Obviously not the roads.
Okay, enough ranting. After what should have been 23 hours of travel, which TOOK 58 HOURS, let me say that again. 58 HOURS of travel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fabled Togean Islands should be the most f***ING amazing islands in the world for that hellish trip to get here.
Well, yes they were the most f***ING amazing islands I've ever seen. Most people will not put up with the 3 days of harsh travel to get to them, and that's a good thing so they won't end up like Thailand's garbage, sleazy party islands.
Yes, the Togean Islands are somehow worth the trouble to get there. Rudy's Place - Lestari Cottages, beautiful, simple bungalows on a secluded beach, vibrant Bajo village on one side of the cottages, on the other side is a vivid, blue lagoon with the perfect temperature water and you can see to the bottom, which is at least 10 meters down. Fish are swimming all around you.
Most of my friends and family will proably never come here, but let me tell you this.
