As I write this, we are flying over India at 40000 feet and 900km/h and I've been gazing out at all the lights thinking that this is all pretty bloody amazing. Amazing that we are finally on our way, amazing that this great big world is so accessible to us, and amazing that this great big plane manages to stay up in the air at all!
We are on the second leg of our journey, having stopped briefly at Singapore and now due to land in Abu Dhabi in about 2.5hrs for a 3hr stopover. We scored a window seat and Mark is conked out beside me, Ben and Gem are further up in the plane which is probably just as well as Gem has a cold and I want none of that, ha! It's 8:45pm in Abu Dhabi but I think about 2:45am in Brisbane time. We're flying Etihad and the flights have been pretty smooth so far, great service and decent food so I'm about as happy as you can be during a 27hr transit. Oh and, very cool, there is a camera on the front of the plane which has given us a pilots view of takeoffs and landings - wonderfully terrifying! I haven't seen this before so I was pretty impressed ;-)
The last week was a bit of a whirlwind as we finished up at our jobs, threw a farewell party and said our goodbyes to family and friends, and then as if I didn't already have enough to be excited about, after 9years together Mark asked me to marry him! So a pretty great week really ;-) The good byes were hard, and there were a few tears...but I've also left feeling very very loved and lucky! It made me realise how many wonderful people and how much love there is in our lives. That's a bit mushy isn't it, but true :-)
There were some stressful moments too, e.g. losing my debit and credit cards a week before lift off! Oopsy. But we worked through all the hiccups and hopefully haven't forgotten anything too important! I feel pretty relaxed and ready to get stuck into it.
Right now though, all I can do is sit back and enjoy my view of...hmm nothing, we're over the ocean I think. In flight movies it is. Next post - Paris! Au Revoir!
