We're back in NYC baby! The 13 hour plane ride was a breeze. Planes have bathrooms (unlike some of those buses down South) so as my Dad said, we really could have ridden forever.
It feels great to be back. Hard to believe just two days ago I was in a tank top on the beach in Valparaiso outside of Santiago, Chile and now I'm all bundled up…
We´re off on our big adventure traveling for six months in South America. I know, we don´t fully believe it either. But we are! La vida es buena, no?! We´ll miss our friends and family in the states but don´t have any complaints about our temporary life on the road, at least not yet. We hope to keep in touch and keep you posted on our travels through this blog. And we´d love to hear from you on our message board here or on email! Ciao for now, Liz y Josh

We spent election night holed up against the wind in our hostel in Calafate, Patagonia. At 2am I started to drift off and Josh woke me in time for McCain's concession and Obama's victory speec…

Hi Elizabeth and Joshua! I just caught up on your two latest from Argentina, and it sure sounds like you guys haven't hit any slumps on this trip at all: your adventures continue and your energy seems boundless (after 10am that is)! I hope Patagonia is as beautiful for you as I've heard it is.
Oh, and that other small thing. Congratulations again to the both of you. It is very, very exciting news! I can't wait to celebrate with you when you're back.
Much love,
Brian

Hi Elizabeth and Joshua
It sounds like Bolivia turned out to be a really fun three weeks. It seems that in spit of Octavio the salt flats were something of a highlight. I got a big kick out of your "amazing" trick photography there (or was it a trick)?! :)
I guess Elizabeth you could add a chapter to your old economic books using the girth of the stray dogs to measure GNP -- I see a nobel prize in the works.
Once again, thank you both for bringing us all along with your pictures and blogs. I will have to think about 13 hours on a bus without a "facility" -- may decide to pass on that one.
Enjoy these last few weeks of your fantastic adventure!!
Love going your way from all of us here at home.
Gene
Hi Elizabeth and Joshua
WOW, swing jumping over rivers, doing class 3 rapids with a "playfully deviant guide" and finally bus surfing for hours on end -- what do you folks do for excitement?!
From the photos, I think Joshua (and his horse) have a shot at a western movie role -- get ready Hollywood. Your blogs, pictures and captions are really terrific and sometimes make me laugh out loud (not the chicken feet soup however). Keep having lots of fun, experiencing new adventures and enjoy. Lots of love coming your way.

Hi Liz and Josh.
Just a message from your Angels. We just read your blog and had a look at your photos. It is fun to recall our days in Ecuador. After Banos we visited the Amazon. We fished for piranhas and did eat ants and some other strange grilled insect (that tastes like bacon). We just returned from Otavalo. This is our last night in Ecuador. Tomorrow we will be flying home. We will be following your trip (maybe to prepare for our 6 month trip next year).
Have fun on the rest of your trip !

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELIZABETH!! I hope you had a great birthday today, and are enjoying your stay in Quito. Your blogs are really so well written and so much fun to read. I know the time it takes to write consistently like that, but it is so appreciated! Meghan and I applied for an apartment in Raleigh today, so we'll hopefully move in this weekend. So far, Meghan's friends have welcomed us to the East Coast/South in style, and we're excited to move into our new place and start settling in. We're looking forward to reading more fun stories! Happy Birthday Sis!

You are leaving my country! I sooooo miss Colombia. What a surprise to see that you went ot Popayan. I was there lots of family members (of the family I lived with) and so we weren't into much touristy stuff. We were there for Holy Week though which was quite an experience. If you think a normal Sunday is strange, you can imagine what Holy Week is like. Keep enjoying yourselves, keep writing because it is through you guys that I am reliving such wonderful memories. Enjoy Ecuador -- don't get altitude sickness! Eileen

Hi "Guys"
Really like your latest blog and wonderful pictures. I agree with others that you are "taking us along" on your adventure! Keep well and enjoying everything (though some of the bus rides must be a challange). Take good care and keep having fun.

Can't wait for your pics of Salvador! I am so glad you went to visit there. Now you are in one of my favorite cities - Cartagena. It has probably changed a lot since I was there, but it one of my favorite places in Colombia. Keep on enjoying yourselves. Eileen

What an amazing trip! I am completely jealous but am happy to live vicariously through this blog! Keep writing, and I'm glad Josh is feeling better.
