Day 1
The night boat was always going to be an experience! As we turned up, we were guided around the cargo on the boat, including fresh fruit & veg, building materials & an egg obstacle course...there was enough eggs to feed the Thai army!!
To our amazement we had a bunk each with fresh linen, but this was where our luxury ended as we shared with 30 other men, women & crying children! But this was the least of our concerns as, unbeknown to us, we were about to enter the storms of the gulf of Thailand! As our surroundings crashed & banged, doors slammed & we were thrown vertical in our beds...luckily the life-jackets were at arms reach! We finally docked at 4am, very relieved, and with nowhere to go slept on the boat until 8am where we went to find our accommodation! A few hrs sleep then we went to meet Nicky, Jo's friend. After some food, beer & sharing of stories they then set off back for Bangkok! We found a massage parlour on the seafront & enjoyed a well-deserved massage in beautiful surroundings!
We dined in a lovely restaurant on the seafront, then went for a few drinks, buckets & fire shows!
Day 2
To our pleasant surprise we woke up to sun...first time in 4days!!! We wasted no time in getting to the beach to resume our sunbathing position! The only downside to this paradise was random blobs of jelly that had a pulse (we think ...) that had obviously been washed in with the storms! Jo found this all to creepy so only got her toes wet, Xtina embraced the fish!
After deciding we'd spent enough hrs in the sun, we stopped to get a kebab from the 'best kebab man in the whole of Thailand' (according to him-but he wasn't far wrong!) as we enjoyed these the heavens opened & we were blessed once again with a downpour! As the streets flooded with water we stayed out of the rain the best way we knew how...in a bar we beer in hand! After several beers & lessons in pool it was dry enough to go home! We showered, changed & out for dinner in an amazing Italian!
Day 3
Today was once again focused on maximising our time in the sun! We sorted our transport back to Bangkok, hotel for when we arrive & then filled our stomachs for the day ahead! The day was beautiful & the random jelly fish had gone so all was looking good! We took a taxi boat over to Koh Nangyuan where we embraced the opportunity to exercise, stupidly in bare feet! We took a wonder round the island, then sweated our way up to the view point, which was spectacular and definitely worth it! We chilled on the beach for a while & Xtina made coral signs for the memories!! Back on our taxi boat to the mainland where we resumed our reading position in a seafront bar! Back for a shower & change before we set off for a bit of shopping! After an interesting experience of a crazed holiday maker trying to fight with the shop keeper (who was only out of nappies!) we decided it was time to fill our stomachs: Xtina with steak (local!) & Jo lasagne ...those well known traditional Thai meals!!
More fire shows followed by a lady-boy cabaret show - an experience in itself! We watched in amazement trying to decide whether these 'ladies' were hiding their willies in their thongs somewhere, or if the op had already been done! Off then for some more beach bar fun where men were men & women were women!
Day 4
As check-out was 11 we got our money's worth and stayed till 10.59! We filled our stomachs then headed for a Thai massage! We were pulled, stretched, bent & twisted into positions that would put the karma sutra to shame! Jo's relaxation was swiftly broken as the massuse attempted to 'click' the poorly and nearly mended toe back into place! This was an eye-watering experience! Having only eaten an hr prior to this, we couldn't leave without have a pizza from Farango's freshly made pizzas! Needless to say we were unable to finish them & we were the envy of everyone as we boarded the boat to Champhon with our pizza box! We soon boarded the bus & arrived 7hrs later in Bangkok!
