Well, we really don't have much new and exciting. We finally found a place to get the pictures and video off our our phone (which is the emergency/back-up when we can't take the camera) so there are some from way back but they were too much fun not to share. The quality is not very good but the surfer that gets onto her board right as the beach begins is my beautiful and talented wife - Pam Anderson eat your heart out! Great fun. That was back in the good days of staying at Beachfront Palms. We were exhausted and beat up from our 3 hours of being bashed around but our 37 year old bodies can now say that we "surfed".
The snakes continue to keep us on our toes. The latest one was certainly the biggest we've seen yet. We had read a newspaper article about a father/son team that does house exterminations of such creatures. They struggled together to get a similar snake (~2 feet longer) out of someone's attic for 2 hours and ultimately gave up to exhaustion. Gulp .
We've found some good walks of late and walking to the Wallaman Falls was really good. Not only are the falls 268m high, but what the picture can't relay is the sheer walls all around the base of the falls. One feels VERY small standing at the bottom of all of that...and a little damp.
I continue my love affair with the insect world. Just when I thought it was safe to go outside again, as we've had a wonderfully bug-free stint here in the north of Queensland, I stepped out at dusk to wash some lettuce and chatted for 2 minutes with our neighbours and my ankles were absolutely buzzing and itchy from 50+ bites. I medicated, as always, with a healthy supply of cleanskin (read cheap) wine and treated topically with Tea Tree oil, our cure-all snake oil that we use for everything.
We were on Magnetic Island yesterday. We coaxed our pathetic bikes to the ferry early in the morning and took them with us out to the island, however, the island was a little more mountainous than our bikes were up for so we ended up hiking all over that sucker. Ironically just after we had finished saying that, as much as the Aussie people have improved since the West & North in our opinions (we're still not really enjoying the "cultural side" of Australia) a guy offered to drive us 10km up the road back to our bikes as the bus had departed early without us.
I think that's about it from us for now. Low on news but high on happiness.
Love to all,
Jason & Baebs
