Finally uploaded some pictures!
Well - we are getting used to driving on the wrong side of the road - one instance of facing an oncoming car teaches that lesson quite effectively. Jason has also figured out that turning on the windshield wipers as a turn signal is not sufficient. We've had some good "touristing" north of Auckland. Our micro camper turned out to be just that: micro in price and size. It has also already a name: The White Bullet and its main characteristic is the lack of ANY special feature that even the cheapest car might have... but then: it's reliable
Our first night camping in the WB (white bullet) will go down in history as "the battle of Waipoua". Our micro camper is basically a station wagon with the hatch open and a little tent attached off the back door. We sleep on two mattresses with the back seat folded down flat. With the hatch door open and the tent attached we have some extra space do store our stuff and to have some air flow. Now to the battle: We turn off the lights only to hear that oh so familiar buzzing sound. Lights come on, one whack, mosquito is spread on the ceiling. Light off, more buzzing. Light on, more whacking and moving. Equipping Jason with glasses, more killing. We figure the mosquitoes are smarter than we thought and found their way in from underneath the car. When we close the hatch about 30 more mosquitoes find their way into our "bedroom". The battle begins - 10 minutes later: a beautiful pattern of dead mosquitoes on the ceiling of the car, two giggling, sweaty but satisfied tourists . Lesson learned: don't camp in the swamps with your hatch opened.
