Guan Yu temple
A hero from the Three Kingdoms period (about which I'll probably be writing my dissertation at some point - a worrying thought if ever there was one), he became venerated over centuries of folk tradition and now occupies a semi-mythological position as a warrior god, a protector god, a patron of businessmen and pretty much anything else he's needed to be. Mao wasn't a fan - convincing peasants to stop worshipping him and switch to Communism was a fairly uphill struggle at times. It must have been desecrated during the Cultural Revolution, but is now restored to something roughly equivalent to its former glory, with offerings of everything from incense to baijiu.
