ok so after a drunken phone call from my mother and auntie today on my mobile i thought it would be a great time to name and shame them for there alcoholic-fuelled antics!..........shame on you Mum and Sally!
ok so its been 16 days since my last entry, alot been going on as per usual. we ended up spending over a week in and around queenstown doing what most people do when going there, white knuckle, adrenalin racing activities. I did 2 Canyon Swings over the shotover river, basically frefalling towards the river before swinging away through the canyon base! pretty awesome, a real buzz! also did river boarding which is trowing yourself in a grade 3 whitewater river on a bodyboard and riding all the raipids and whirl pools without getting dragged under water!!! again pretty cool. the street luge was good fun, me marcel and adam racing down the hillside 5 times! it not all death-defying activities though, i took a trip to the Fiordlands of New Zealand with the girls, most famously known for Milford Sound however we took an over night cruise on the less populated Doubtful Sound. this place is special, huge towering moutains falling straight into the sea. we saw Penguins, Dolphins and Seals. also Kayaked through one of the many coves and inlets of Doubtful. an absolutely beautiful place with the most spectacular waterfalls ive ever seen. we also visit other lakes and sites in the area such as Lake Te Anau. Queentown is also well known for a certain takeaway, Fergburger! this place is king of all kings in the burger department, they make the most amazing 100% NZ prime beef burgers in the world. open from 8am - 5am each and everyday, fergburger gets over 2000 people through there doors each day. me been a burger monster take on the Big Al, $16 of 1/2 Ib beef, salad and sauses, take a look at the photos, you will see what i mean! i manage to finish it like a real trooper covering my whole face in sauce! i looked well sexy! spend the next 4 hours in bed with meat sweats! worth it though, i made sure i made another call there before we left. i could quite easily settle and live in Queenstown for a while, probably the only place so far on my trip i have said that about. not just for the fergburgers, its an amazing part of the world.
so after a week of nearly killing myself we sent off to Mt Cook, the highest mountain in NZ. this place was breath-taking, words cannot discribe how beautiful this place really is. the pictures however in my album probably will say it all. it was like an oil painting the whole area. Mt cook Village is at the base of the mountain which is the home of the famous explorer Sir Edmund Hillarys alpine centre. this is the place he did all his Everest training before taking on the worlds highest peak. pretty amazing place. after a bite to eat in a very pictureque cafe we took a walk around Tasman lake which had ice bergs on it from the broken ice off Tasman Glacier. we then took the most amazing 1 hour flight in a helicopter! probably the highlight of my trip so far by miles! we set off and fly back over Tasman Lake before flying up Tasman Glacier, the largest glacier in NZ, which leads to Mt Tasman, NZ 2nd highest mountain which then leads to Mt Cook, the daddy of all southern hemisphere mountains, we flew over middle earth for those who are lord of the rings fans before landing over the ridge onto Franz Josef Glacier! a snow landing on top of one of the worlds most famous glaciers, on top of 600ft of snow, on top of the world! i was in complete orr of what i was actually doing! after a 15min spine chilling landing we then took off over Fox Glacier before heading back to Mt Cook for one last fly around the summit then heading home with the biggest smile on my face!
so one of the best days of my life was ending and what better way then to watch the sun set over the mountains and take amazing photos of where we were. 107 photos i took that day!
so my trip to NZ ended on such high, we get bakc to Christchurch to meet back up with everyone for one last time before we all then fly our seperate ways. Marcel to Cairns, Donna & Louise to Melbourne, adam to Fiji! and myself to Sydney! its weird leaving the people i have spent the last 7 weeks with behind and travel to Oz all on my own. for 2 weeks i will spend without knowing anyone. my own little adventure! haha.
a short 3 hour flight to oz and im in sydney, a city everyone wants to visit sometime in there lifetime and why not, the harbour bridge, the opera house, 2 of the most iconic landmarks in the world! 1st day i take a city tour from the hostel, a walk around the main sights plus it gives me chance to meet some people. it was cool going through chinatown, seeing Darling Harbour, the harbour bridge and opera house. a gental stroul through the botanical gardens to see white cockatoo's and the fruit bats! the next 2 days i spend exploring some of the beaches around sydney, the famous yet rather tacky Bondi and the small, less commercialised Coogee Beach. its nice to lay out in 30 degrees of heat and watch the world go by! my room mates are pretty cool, 2 guys im good mates with now are travelling solo too so we do alot of stuff together. drink mainly!!! we book a trip to the blue mountains and take off there for a day. a short 2 hour drive took us into the park to check out some grey Kangaroos and interesting wildlife! we then take in some of the spectacular views. the blue mountains remind me of the grand canyon but on a smaller, less grander scale but still very beautiful and.....well blue! we take a walk deep into the valley bottom to see some waterfalls and stunning views. also drive to the 3 sisters, probably the most famous rock formation in the blue mountains. we also ride the scenic railway, a 90 second, 52 degree train up the hill, its the steepest railway in the world! pretty cool. we take in some of the final views of the mountains and head back to sydney for a quick stop off at the olympic village. a long tiring day......so we head out for a heavy night around Kings Cross of course! stroal into bed at 5:30am! nice!
so the last 16 days have had it all. i fly out to Alice Springs on Tuesday to take an outback trek around Ayres rock and Kings Canyon before spending 2 days on the road to Adelaide through the true outback, sleeping in some caves i believe! should be rather interesting......oh no spiders or snakes spotted yet but i did however nearly step on one of australia's most deadly lizzards whilst in the blue mountains! phew, lucky one that! our tour guide was glad i didnt step on him!!! could have been messy! i live on.....for now! (sorry mum).
