I made plans to take the train to Eva's hometown for the weekend, and she warned me not to miss the stop or else I would end up in Hungary. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to understand what was coming out of the speakers, but even worse they didn't make any announcements as to what stops we were arriving at! It was already dark by this time, so that made it even more difficult. Everyone else but me seemed to know, so I just kept asking people. After exiting the train, I was left standing in the secluded train station all alone. I found a pizza parlor down the street, and I went there to use the phone to call Eva. It took them about 5 minutes to figure out what I was needing. They just kept talking to me in some foreign language, and I don't think it was even German. Turns out, the directions got mixed up over the phone and I had bought a ticket for the next village. Eva came to pick me up, then we went to her friend's birthday party. The next day, her mom cooked an authentic meal for us. It was one of the best meals I've had here so far! During lunch we talked about our different cultures. Her mother's English is pretty impressive for having learned it 30 years ago, but her father didn't know as much. Hopefully I will be able to have a conversation with them in German before I leave. Her parents are so nice and her town is beautiful. I'm looking forward to going back again!
