The Road trip begins, it took us a while to get out of Sydney and on to they highway but we managed it and our first stop was Port Stephens. We stayed on one mile beach close to Nelsons Bay, The campsite was really nice and we saw wild koalas and they had a pet joey that came to see if we had anything worth eating had a chew on my sleve and bounced off. We stayed for three nights and on the morning we were due to set off the car battery had gone flat as i left the lights on oops! so we got a jump start and were only delayed by an hour. Our next stop was Seals Rock, amazing beaches and not so well known with the tourists. At the back of the camp site, camp treachery, there's a massive sand dune were you can watch the sun set, if you walk over it you come to the beach with probibly about 15 people on it at any one time. One morning i went for a run along the beach and when i stopped and looked out to sea there was a pod of about 5 dolphins swimming along close to the shore wow! We stayed for two nights and then moved on to Nabucca Heads where we had just missed three days of heavy rain. we stayed three nights and went fishing off the harbour wall and caught a sea bream for tea one night, we saw sting rays too. The next stop was going to be woolglloga but the campsites were all full so we carried on up the highway and just pulled off at a place called wooli for the night. it was set on a river bank and was really nice in the end. The next day we carried on to Yamba that was reccomended to us by Jo and it was really lovely, the sun came out, the campsite was nice, the beach was good for swimming and fishing. One night Wes caught a big Bream and then a monster of a bream so we ate well too, dont' think the local fisherman were too chuffed that we just turned up with a hand real and went home with tea in about and hour and a half! We saw our first sharks here too only baby reef sharks. After Yamba we stayed at Lennox head just outside Byron Bay as it was cheaper. Byron Bay was great we went for the day and we watched the surfers while we had a picnic dinner, had a look round the surf shops and went up to the light house. We drove into Queensland where it instantly became more humid and stayed just past redhill at Caloundra it was a long drive and the campsite was near the road and not too great. We set off streight away in the morning and went to Hervey bay near the whitsundays we stayed by the harbour for two nights for a rest before driving to the town of 1770 which is the first place that james cook landed in Queensland. There wasn't much of a town but there was a really nice beach where we had our surf lesson for $16.50 really cheap. We both stood up after three hours, but not for long, you don't realise how hard it is and the hardest part is carrying the board out over the breakers in the current thats pulling you back to the beach! We got dunked a few times but it was alot of fun.Next was the longest part of the drive up the bruce highway to Airlie Beach it was a killer and it was the hottest and most humid day ever but totally worth it to get to Airlie beach. Theres alot of money here and i think everyone who lives here has a boat the marina was packed with expensive looking yaghts. you can't swim in the sea because of the jellyfis and sharks and crocs but they have built a pretty big lagoon looking out to sea which we stayed in for hours. We stayed only two nights as the campsite was really crap and we wanted to get up to Cairns pretty quick. The next planned stop was Townsville but when we drove through it looked like a bit of a hole so we carried on to mission beach stopping for alot of ice cream and cold drinks on the way. Mission beach was quiet and had great views and the best fish and chips in Oz. Next stop Cairns Woo hoo! the car made it and it was great to see Emma and Graham. We went on Uncle Brians tour of the tablelands and the local swimming spots, miri miri falls where peter Andres filmed the video for mysterious girl! definately a tour you should go on, it rained all day and it didn't matter we still had a great day. Green island, snorkeling the Barrier reef, we saw sharks and green turtle and had a great day really amazing. We ate like kings and swam in Em's pool alot and drank alot of beer. Awsome! Oz is great don't want to leave but we are now on route to New Zealand to find a job before we hit the overdraft! Thanks to everyone who sent Birthday messages was nice to hear from home x x
