Granada was another quick overnight stop, in fact so quick if we'd blinked we might have missed it. Tony had booked tickets online for a guided tour through Alhambra on the afternoon we arrived and that proved to be well worth the money spent.
Alhambra is a Moorish palace and fortress that was originally constructed in 889 and then largely ignored until its ruins were renovated and rebuilt in the mid-11th century. In 1333, it was converted into a Royal Palace. It's beautiful gardens and palaces are filled with history and there are stunning views over Granada from this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The gardens of Alhambra are filled with wildflowers, roses, orange trees and myrtle and there are numerous fountains throughout the palaces and grounds. Our guide Gustave was very knowledgable and made the walking tour, informative & entertaining.
After a quick drive through the old city of Granada the following morning we headed further south to embark on our planned walk of El Caminito del Rey.
