Lunenburg is a Unesco world heritage site famous for its colourful heritage buildings originating from the 1700's that line the bayshore. The waterfront is known for its bright boats and is home to the Bluenose, which is the mighty ship on your Canadian dime. It was built right here in Lunenburg. Sadly the ship was out of harbour somewhere in Ontario touring the Great Lakes. But there were plenty other old pretty boats in the bay. We arrived just in time for the annual Folk Music festival and happened upon a free live concert by the Good Archies from Cape Breton. Soon the Nova Scotia sea air had filled our hearts and we were in love with that feeling you get in memorable little towns like this one. Tapping our toes and singing along, I feel I might just belong here with these good hearted people.
The quaint village of Lunenburg is artsy and vibrant, so I couldn't walk away without a souvenir. The very first shop I entered, my eyes went straight to a tile with a lighthouse on it...And so it was meant to be! A lighthouse and a reminder of hope on the foggy days when you just can't see beyond...there are good things on the horizon.
The rains set in just in time for a drive out to the tip of the peninsula called the blue rocks. Weaving past sea shanty's and little boats and buoys, we arrived at rocks that were blue indeed. Everything is refreshingly different and I could find beauty in every glance in a new direction. I can see why people love it here! A memorable day in this great adventure on the East Coast.
