After the unexpected detour to the Isle of Wight the day after Brighton, our plans for the reminder of our time in the UK were looking overwhelming and unattainable. There are simply too many other vehicles on the road causing wear and tear which results in road works and traffic jams and frustration for everyone, especially our party of four with limited knowledge and experience of local driving conditions.
Factor in the need to locate accommodation and a car jam packed full of luggage and you potentially create conditions for a perfect storm that would test the firmest friendships.
I am happy to report that despite all the obstacles we enjoyed our whirlwind tour covering 500 miles and survived with our relationships and sense of humour still intact. My tip for anyone considering a similar adventure would be to emulate the existing tour itineraries as much as possible and be prepared to compromise.
Happy to have seen Stonehenge even if only from afar, not so happy to have yet again missed the opportunity to visit a castle due to limited time and funds. Sunday Roast at The Cotswold Arms, our insider tour of the Isle of Wight, the Roman Baths and our picture perfect day in Brighton my personal highlights as well as the opportunity to enjoy the lush green scenery along with way.
As for the rest, gives me a reason to return and explore further another day.
