We arrived in Rotorua in the early hours of this morning, after driving through the night, and me sleeping on the back seat of the car, which wasnt that comfortable, as you can imagine, and landed at the local YHA, The Kiwi Paka, which is a really decent Hostel, with a cafe and a heated pool, amongst other stuff- so, jobs a good'un!!
After just bumming about for a few hours, trying not to fall asleep so to not waste the day, we decided to do something productive, something that I have been waiting to do for a long time, something exciting.....
We drove to the place where we did A ZORB!!!!!!
For those who arent aware of the Zorbing phenomenon, it is basically putting yourself in a large, inflatable ball, and rolling down a hill, very fast!!!
Paul and I decided to give it a go, but Mum decided to save her money for something that she wanted to do more, so Paul and I opted for a single Hydrozorb, which is basically, being put in the ball with some water in it, just to ad to the giggles!!!
We watched a few people do theirs first, and then I went first to the top of the 200 metre high hill. I had hired the Zorbing gear to wear, and I was fully prepared to become a first time Zorbanout...
After the guy filled the ball with warm water, he told me to do a Superman dive through the small hole in the side to get in, which I did (I looked like an idiot, obviously, but its all part of the fun!!hehe) and then, I was instructed to leg it as fast as I could, until I fell over and rolled down uncontrolably, which I did.
It didnt take me long to fall over, as I chose to take the wobbly track down the hill, but it was so much fun!!!!!
I was absolutely soaking, and it took what seemed like a long time to get down the hill!! When they finally tipped me out of the thing at the bottom (in a totally undignified manner, may I add!) I was thoroughly disorientated and dizzy, and then there was a woman taking photos of me...I was so confused!!!
But, I would recommend it to anyone!! Its definately the most fun you can have in a big, wet hamster ball/washing machine!!!lol.
After my go, Pasul went to the top of the hill with a few other people, and we attempted to film what we thought was him coming down the hill twice, until the person that rolled out looked decidedly feminine, and then we realised after the third attempt that this one was actually him, when the hairy toes came popping out first!!!!lol.
Paul really enjoyed it, too, he said! Mum bought the pictures that the woman took of us, and Paul doesnt look that bad on his, but, because I am so disorientated, Im bloody cross eyed on most of mine, and look absolutely rank!!!heheh. They are funny, though I suppose!!
Afterwards, we passed a place of Gepthermal activity on the way back to the Hostel, which was basically like a park, with a load of natural mud baths, and steam springs that smelt like rotten eggy fart all over it!! Despite the rancid smell, they were quite impressive thoug, and in previous times, people bathed in them , but now they are fenced off for safety reasons.
One of the pools was called "the Lobster Pool" because it is so hot that it turns your skin the colour of a lobster when you sit in it!!! To be honest, they just reminded me of the Bog Of Eternal Stench, all those who are Laberynth fans and know what I am talking about....
Then, we drove into the centre, to a plce called Government Gardens, where there are buildings surrounding the geothermal pools to bathe in. The place was really lovely, with a really nice moch-tudor building that was the Museum, but we didnt stay there long, as the smell was so grotesque and pungent that it was almost overpowerring!! It was worse than at the Bog Park!!!
Mum randomly made freiends with a cheeky little bird that for some reason, decided to come upto her and peck her fingers, which was wierd!!! But really funny, too!!
Then, tonight, all we have done is been for a Curry!!! And thats it!!!
