WHERE VIV'S AT...
Hi all, finally got to Darwin. Just got here last night so not much to say about the place really (this is more to update my location on the site).
However very glad to have left Kununurra - was a bit bored there but did read a good book and I did acquire about 10 more mozzie bites. To give you an idea, Kununurra is the main town in the East Kimberley region (which is one of the most remote areas of Oz) and it's a bit rough and ready - real outback stuff and miles from bloody anywhere. Actually I think Katherine is the nearest town and that's 500 odd Ks away. The hostel was ok though, a nice pool and really nice owners but it did get broken into on Monday night by local youngsters and many people had phones, wallets, cameras and ipods taken - I was lucky my room was at the back so I think they had to do a runner before they got there - so yeah, a nice town...
On first impressions, Darwin seems a pretty cool and very laid back kind of place with lots of palm trees and stunning weather, actually thinking about it, it has a kind of tropical feel to it. However I'll reserve real judgement until I've had a few days here. Got a couple of things planned like tonight I'm going to the openair deckchair cinema with a couple of girls from the hostel (btw Kirsten, Gecko is pretty good and the free pancakes are yummy) and then tomorrow I'm going to hit the night market then on Friday I'm off to see Litchfield, Katherine and Kakadu for a few days.
Well that's all for now, off to explore the top-end.
