I've never been much of horseback rider, but I just had to try it. Horses were fist brought to Iceland over a thousand years ago by the Vikings. Iceland's horses are strong and they can handle any kind of terrain Iceland can throw at the. Luckily I didn't fall off. I did come pretty close though. My horse also almost made me hit a tree. Horseback riding is definitely something I want to try again.
Today, I discovered, was once a holiday called Boxing Day. Servents on Christmas Day were expected to make everything run smoothly. In return on December 26th the employers would allow the servents to take a break and go and visit their friends and families. The employers would also give each of their servents a box containing gifts and bonuses. In addition, churches would open their alms boxes where people would place monetary donations. The church would then take this money and distribute it to poor people.
Before today I had never tried salmon. I fgured if there was ever a time to try salmon it was now. The salmon season for Iceland usually last three months, June-September. This time period may vary slightly according to the region. Around twenty of Iceland's rivers are in the first-class bracket for slamon catching. These salmon usually are ranked with the finest in the world. All I know is that this is definitely not going to be the last time I have salmon.
The National Museum of Iceland is continuely growing museum. The museum shows a timeline, with works of art, of the last 1,200 years of Iceland's cultural history. The museum contains up to 3,000 objects. This is not the biggest museum I've ever seen, but among these 3,000 objects it holds some of the most greatest treasures of the Icelandic nation.
To help remind me of the awesome experience I had horseback riding I decided to get myself a viking helmet. I probably could've just gotten a model of a horse, but this way I'll remeber some of the history as well as all of the fun I had. As my entire vacation was coming to an ending I was a little sad, but I was excited to see my family and friends again. I will never forget anything that happend to me over this last month. All the way from skiing on Vitosha mountain to that amzing jass festival I went to in Spain.
