In Laurens, there are 3 canals. Usually they have a little tiny trough in them.
Once in a while in summer, the south of France gets a big rainstorm. All the rain rushes down the mountains (they are right behind us here) toward the Mediterranean Sea. We have signs up, showing how high our little river (La Naubine) rose in particular years. The worst seems to have happened in 1868. Since then, they've created cement canals that can handle tons of water. Friday we had a huge thunderstorm, with torrents of water. This was a first for us! We were really impressed how well they worked.
