Trenet was born in Narbonne, spent time in Beziers & Perpignan, but eventually ended up in Paris, where he became a nightclub star. He wrote hundreds of poems, then put them into songs. He is best known for "La Mer", which was recorded by 40 different artists. We remember Bobby Darrin's version in 1960 more than George Benson's in the mid 80s. The exhibit was fascinating: lots of videos of him performing or chatting with famous people, & numerous opportunities to listen to his many songs. Our favorite was "Que reste-t-il de nos amours?" (or "I Wish You Love", sung by Nat King Cole. Trenet walked into a bar in the early '50s in NYC, & saw a young man playing piano standing up. Trenet & Nat King Cole became friends. Everybody loved Charles!
