The American "Doughboys" of WWI
Nobody knows for sure where the name "Doughboy" comes from, but the first time it was used was during the American Mexican War. Some think it refers to the dust created by the foot soldiers, that looked like the adobe homes, thus Doughboy. Others think it referred to a dumpling like food they made over open fires, sometimes frying them on their bayonets.
