The battles in the trenches went on for 4 years, everywhere in the Verdun area. Between the forest of Argonne, & the area around the river Meuse, the Germans battled the French & the British, going back & forth, sometimes a matter of yards. A real hopscotch, until the Americans showed up. They provided much needed new energy in great numbers, but their losses were heavy too. The French to this day say the "Doughboys" made all the difference in winning the war.
