The "map wardrobe room" in the Palazzo Vecchio.
This really brought home to me what the Florentines had accomplished. From the middle ages to the Renaissance, Italy's many city states fought each other for power. Florence, with its bankers & merchants, came out on top. They "ruled" their little corner of the world, but because of their new "humanism", they embraced change & looked to a broader world than theirs. Each of these individual wardrobes has a map of a foreign country on it. Inaccurate they may be, but it does show you that Florence was aware that there was a big world out there.
