The "Garden of the Fountain"
We'd not been to the gardens yet, so we decided to go there for our last visit to Nimes in 2015. It was a beautiful day, & we enjoyed it so much. In Roman times, this was the site of a spring, a theater, a temple, & baths. In fact, Nimes was named for this spring (the Nemausa). It was the object of devotion for the Celtic tribe (the Volcae) who lived here. The present day gardens were laid out in the 18th century, with pools leading into a channel, balustraded walls, & ambling paths up a very large hill.
