was a French orientalist painter, & the son of Art Nouveau furniture designer Louis Majorelle. He arrived in Morocco in 1917, invited by the French Résident-Général, Marshal Layautey. Seduced by Marrakesh, Jacques decided to stay (why not?) & bought a huge palm grove that became Le Jardin Majorelle. He was known for his Art Deco studio, painted in "Majorelle Blue", the background of the guide panel shown here.
